My Favorite Things

6/8/2012

It has been some time since I wrote a blog post. The process of writing has always been a part of my shadow self. (The shadow self is the part of us we wish was better or didn’t exist.) Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love writing, but I have never felt “good enough”. Maybe it’s because when I was in the high school my tenth grade teacher said I was never going to be a good writer. I have forgiven her, but still the fear of writing is a constant monkey on my back. When facing a fear, I teach my clients to find the feel good feeling within them to bridge the gap between their desire and what scares them. This blog article is a super fun way to connect with your intuitive feel good experience.

For my 27th birthday, I made the theme of my party “favorite things”. I told my guests to bring their favorite things to the event. I even made my ring tone for that month, John Coltrane’s version of the song, My Favorite Things. In numerology, I am a 9-Life Path and the year I turned 27 was a personal year of 9 for me so it was an extra special time in my journey. In all the party planning, I forgot to take time to explore my favorite things. Of course, having a party is one of my favorite things, but I didn’t dig any deeper than that. Now, five years later, I thought it was important to check in with myself. What do I enjoy? What makes me feel good? What are my favorite things?

So I took to internet and found a list of “favorite” questions. After adding a few of my own, I spent an afternoon answering the following questions.  I did the exercise on a day when I was really in need of some feel good energy and it definitely lifted my spirits. Answering these questions helped me remember why life is so magnificent even in the midst of my sometimes overwhelming challenges. I want to encourage you to take some time to do the “My Favorite Things” exercise listed below. I promise this playful questionnaire will increase your feel good energy and create a positive shift in your perspective, especially if you’re facing some difficult circumstances.

As an added bonus, I’ve included my favorite things list below. Please feel free to respond to this post with your list as well. I would absolutely love to see them.

With joy,
Amy

Exercise: “My Favorite Things”

Instructions: There are no rules for this exercise other than to invoke the spirit of playfulness and honesty within you as you answer the following questions. At the end of the exercise, ask yourself: What did I learn about myself? How can I integrate more of “my favorites” into my everyday life? What if my life was a series of favorite moment, what would it look like? How would I feel? Where would I be? Who would I share them with?
